At this facility, our SAF unit was used for approximately 1.5 years before being replaced for the first time.
According to the maintenance team, they simply loosened the cap bolts until they heard a “pop” from the adapter, and the bearing came right off the shaft.

Previously, removal required 2–3 people, along with cutting using a grinder or torch. This also required a hot work permit from the safety department and a fire watch (a fire spotter who monitors for sparks and fire hazards) to remain on-site for several hours.
Eliminating this process was highly appreciated by the customer.

This represents a major improvement in safety, time, and labor.

Case Study – Alumina conveyor snub pulley

At an alumina refinery in Western Australia, snub pulley bearings on a train loading conveyor had to be replaced every 16 weeks due to premature failures caused by contamination, abrasive wear, and installation issues.

Our Australian distributor, Statewide Bearings, recommended upgrading to COC CX2SN11-050 unitswith protective covers and sealing improvements.

Result

The bearing life was extended from 16 weeks to 60 weeks — nearly 4 times longer.

We had a great number of visitors, and it was so busy that we are completely exhausted.
​Many visitors came after hearing that our labyrinth seal has been successful at other companies, and there was strong interest in the labyrinth seal. We believe it can contribute to extending service life.

The Saniline safety cover system has been patented. It features a simple mechanism that allows the cover to be locked and unlocked by a slight rotation using the bearing insertion opening of the housing.

There is no need to hammer the cover into place or pry it open with a screwdriver.

What makes this idea truly outstanding is that no additional machining is required for the cover. The cover can be installed on an as-cast housing without any modification.

Saniline is typically used in food machinery, but this is an example from a car wash application. One of the major advantages of Saniline is its maintenance-free, relubrication-free design, which eliminates the risk of grease leaking from the bearing and contaminating vehicles.
With the bearings previously used, corrosion was also an issue. Since the machine is made of stainless steel, switching to Saniline has eliminated the corrosion problem as well.

Proven in the Field: How COC Bearings Solve Real Problems

Fans

We have sold many bearings for fan applications and are seeing excellent results. These fans typically operate at high speeds, around 1,800–2,000 rpm. We have supplied both SAF and CXCstyle bearings for fan use, all equipped with labyrinth seals.

These fans are critical to plant operations, as they are used for dust control and aeration. Not only are our bearings lasting longer, but they are also running at significantly lower temperatures. This is important because many large plants have rules limiting bearing temperatures to no more than 30°F above ambient. If a bearing exceeds this limit, the fan must be shut down or external cooling fans must be installed.

A large grain-handling customer reports average operating temperatures of only 5–10°F above ambient on our bearings. Their feedback was: “No one else can come close.”

Animal Feed Mills

Hammer mills, commonly found in feed mills, reduce pelletized feed into smaller, more digestible particles. These machines also operate at high speeds, typically around 1,800 rpm.

A major food-processing customer reports bearing temperatures between 80–100°F on our SAF 4-7/16” units after the first 24 hours of operation—substantially cooler than competitive products. They even called during the Labor Day weekend to review the installation process because “it just seemed too easy.”

Grain Handling

There are many applications for moving product throughout plants, including belt conveyors, bucket elevators, and screw conveyors, all of which use our type of bearings. These applications generally run at slower speeds.

Our triple-lip seals perform exceptionally well in these environments, which are often extremely dusty. In the field, customers sometimes steer belts by offsetting bearings or operate screw conveyors with bent shafts—not best practices, but it happens. Our bearings’ ±2° misalignment capability, combined with constant sealing pressure, which is best-in-class, allows them to continue operating reliably under these conditions.

We have added an explanation of the housing material. In general, housings are often described simply as cast iron, and the material is typically ASTM A48 Class 30 (FC200). Since the beginning, COC products have used ASTM A48 Class 40 (FC250), so we have updated the description accordingly. Both the tensile strength and hardness are higher than those of competing products.

The CXC2P13-207, 2-7/16” CROSSLOC pillow block bearings are working great in their cotton gin.
They said a common problem in this industry is undersized shafts, and competitors are facing some rejections because their bearings can’t tighten onto the shaft securely.
COC bearings were able to accommodate the undersized shafts, were easier to install, and ran at lower temperatures than the previous bearings.
